29/08/2011

The third edition of the Weihai International Triathlon, and ITU World Cup Event (Olympic 2), will take place on Sunday, 23 September 2012. For the third consecutive year, the City of Weihai, Shandong Province will host an Olympic 2 event of the ITU circuit.

In the space of only two previous editions, the Weihai International Triathlon has become a leading event and uncontested meeting point for Long Distance Triathlon in Asia.

Once again, the race has been scheduled for September, an ideal date in terms of climate (around 24⁰C) and in terms of the International Triathlon Calendar. The race offers a unique, as well as exceptional opportunity, to discover a country where history and modernity blend into one, allowing for a harmonious unison between triathlon and tourism.

The City of Weihai has considerable infrastructure and facilities at it’s disposition to host such an event, and has already proved it’s success as a venue. A course defined between the ocean and the mountains, where green blends into blue. Every element is present and included in the course – climbing, technical descents, long, straight sections to catch your breath, only to have it taken away by the magnificent sea views!

The opening ceremony is an event in itself, offering spectacular song and dance.
A fireworks display illuminates the sky in honour of you, the athlete, only minutes before diving into the Yellow Sea, showing that every athlete is a privileged actor in this event.

Year on year, the public of Weihai and its surrounds have become aware, and now have much admiration for the efforts of the athletes. You can be sure that you will receive the warmest encouragement, all along the route until the finishline, situated in the superb Weihai marina.

Once the race is done, you can share your race day stories and experiences with athletes from around the world, at a formidable closing dinner. In true Chinese style, you can eat delicious local food while watching the traditional entertainment of music and dramatic dance, in a unique and friendly ambience.

In the past two years , some of the world’s best triathletes have been present, and have been enchanted and charmed by the Weihai event. To name but a few: Caroline Steffen, Kiyomi Niwata, Aaron Farlow, Jimmy Johnsen, and not to forget the unique and inimitable French age-grouper Bilbo with his characteristic crazy finsh, and many more…

They all have one thing in common, to come back and to race on this perfectly measured course, with ideal weather conditions and to meet up with the friendly Chinese people – so why not you?

Weihai and the joyful Shandong Province awaits you with open arms!
